Hibernia Tract land records, 1795-1883.

This collection consists of one folder of surveys and maps pertaining to the Hibernia Tract and dating from 1785 to 1883. The surveys and maps detail the numerous divisions of the tract, particularly among the Scott and Beach families and document the sale of land by Chilion Beach to the School Trustees Board. The collection also contains notes describing various land deeds from 1771-1843, detailing the measurements of parcels of tract land.

In 1753, Joshua Ball purchased a tract of land in Rockaway Township, New Jersey containing a rich vein of iron ore. This land became known as the Hibernia Tract and a furnace was built on it. The Hibernia Furnace was owned by a number of men including Lord Stirling and William Scott, who purchased the furnace and surrounding land in 1821 and built a forge near the furnace dam.
